They are typically white at room temperature and contain trace amounts of hafnium dioxide (HfO₂) and the stabilizer yttrium oxide (Y₂O₃). Their core characteristics include:

2. High hardness: HV1250, far exceeding most metal materials.
3. Excellent wear resistance: Achieved through phase transformation toughening via crystal structure changes (monoclinic phase, tetragonal phase, cubic phase).
