
To ensure stable performance of silicon nitride balls in industrial applications, strict quality inspection standards must be implemented from raw materials to finished products. Regular quality control covers dimensional tolerance, roundness, surface roughness, hardness, density, fracture toughness and appearance defect detection, following ISO 3290 and industrial ceramic inspection specifications.
Dimensional tolerance inspection is the basic item. Silicon nitride balls are divided into precision grades G3,G5, G10, G16 and other levels. Inspectors use high-precision micrometer and automatic diameter sorting instrument to detect ball diameter deviation, ensuring each batch meets the tolerance range of corresponding grade. Unqualified balls with excessive diameter error will cause bearing jitter and precision decline.
Roundness and sphericity inspection determines rolling stability. Professional sphericity measuring instrument is used to test the three-dimensional shape of silicon nitride balls. High-precision grade products require extremely small sphericity error, avoiding point contact and local stress concentration during operation, which easily leads to early fatigue damage.
Surface roughness detection checks the smoothness after lapping and polishing. Excellent silicon nitride balls have ultra-low Ra value, no scratches, pits, cracks and edge defects on the surface. Smooth surface reduces friction coefficient, lowers wear and avoids impurity adhesion in working environment.
Physical performance inspection includes Vickers hardness, bulk density and thermal stability. Hardness test verifies wear resistance; density reflects sintering compactness, low density means insufficient sintering and poor structural strength. High-temperature thermal cycling test simulates actual working environment to verify no cracking or performance attenuation.
Chemical composition and impurity detection control raw material purity. Excess impurities will reduce high-temperature performance and corrosion resistance of silicon nitride balls. Strict raw material powder screening and finished product composition analysis are necessary to ensure batch consistency.
Only silicon nitride balls that pass all inspection items can be applied to precision bearings, aerospace, medical and semiconductor fields. Standardized quality inspection is the core guarantee for the reliable application of silicon nitride balls in modern industry.
